Eileen Togher, LMT graduated from the Swedish Institute in NYC in 2004. Over the years, Eileen has taken a variety of continuing education courses and certifications, all leading to her unique blend of massage and healing techniques. Having over a decade of experience, she works with each client to ensure the reason that brought them to her office is addressed in the most efficient way possible. She knows she cannot help everyone and is here to educate her clients and refer out to the appropriate practitioner when necessary. She understands that Massage Therapy, Reiki, Yoga, and Energy Work can all be stepping stones for each every client’s individual healing journey.
Eileen suffered an overuse injury in 2015 which lead her down the road of healing and discovery. Feeling pain and swelling in her hands, arm, neck and jaw, some days found it difficult to get through a 60min session without pain. The mental and emotional strain of sustaining an injury lead Eileen to see and understand her clients differently. This type of experience is not taught in any of the schools or workshops. She tried acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, sound healing, energy work, and yoga. Not finding satisfactory relief from most therapies for longer than a couple of days, she found yoga helped her the most. Eileen decided she really needed to take charge and DO something or end her career as a Massage Therapist. The latter was out of the question. She decided to dedicate herself to a daily yoga practice and within a month or so started to notice she was progressively getting stronger and her clients seemed to notice the difference in the work they received. She realized that healing takes time, patience and a strong urge to overcome what you are presented with, all the while maintaining realistic goals.
Today, she continues with her love for Yoga (Asana & Pranayama) and although not all days are spent on the mat, she practices simple 15min Pranayama/Breathing Techniques and feels this can be just as good as a full hour of asana.
Eileen hopes to encourage others to discover what therapies may work for them on their road to healing and recovery. Eileen continues to take classes to keeps up to date with the latest research and massage techniques. She is so happy to be back in her beloved city, New York. She attends classes at Dharma Yoga Center whenever she can and looks forward to helping her fellow New Yorkers’ journey through healing and life in the city.
