Pregnancy Massage

Prenatal Massage*

*Performed after 13 weeks. Please refer to the list of contraindications if any exist please acquire written permission from your primary healthcare provider or Midwife before proceeding with massage.

Massage during pregnancy can help the expectant mother feel nurtured, gain a sense of well-being and feel more relaxed during the sometimes difficult weeks of pregnancy. While working in spas in NYC and East Hampton, Eileen repeatedly heard similar comments from her pregnant clients. They were almost pleading for deeper work stating that their last massage was “too light”or they felt the therapist “was afraid” to work on them. In 2007, Eileen decided to become certified in prenatal massage to fully grasp the type of work that pregnant women needed. Eileen combines massage and Reflexology techniques, positioning suggestions, aromatherapy and sound healing in each session.

During her years in practice, Eileen has mastered the prone or “face-down” positioning for pregnancy Post-partum. A variety of cushions strategically placed on the table can help you feel like you are “floating” or “weightless” while on your belly, even in the later stages of pregnancy. You may “forget you are pregnant” while you are on the table. After your session, Eileen may offer sleep position suggestions, basic gentle stretches and hopes to help you through the sometimes not so easy days or weeks of pregnancy.

Add 30 minutes of Reflexology to your session.

Today's pregnant women —along with other health care consumers— are looking for alternative approaches to support traditional health services.

Benefits of Prenatal Massage Include:

Emotional support and nurturing touch.
Relaxation and decreased insomnia.
Stress relief on weight-bearing joints, such as ankles, lower back and pelvis.
Neck and back pain relief caused by muscle imbalance and weakness.
Assistance in maintaining proper posture.
Preparing the muscles used during childbirth.
Reduced swelling in hands and feet.
Lessened sciatic pain.
Fewer calf cramps.
Headache and sinus congestion relief.

A study conducted by Dr. Tiffany Field at the University of Miami School of Medicine showed that massage actually reduces stress hormones in the body. Touch is vital to the mother's physical and emotional well being as she adapts to her new body image. Regardless of individual circumstances, a pregnant woman's body is challenged, changed and stressed in many ways. Massage gives special attention to the mother-to-be, which in turn nurtures the new life that grows within her.

Is Prenatal Massage Right for You?

Massage during pregnancy is usually safe for most mothers. Your massage therapist will want to know if you are having any problems or complications with your pregnancy before you begin. If you are, then your therapist will require approval from your primary health care provider before proceeding with any bodywork.

Contraindications: The following are circumstances in which massage should not be performed:

Heavy discharge (watery or bloody); Diabetes; Contagious illness; Fever; Vomiting; Unusual pain; Pre-eclampsia; High blood pressure; Morning sickness; Abdominal pain; Diarrhea; Any malignant condition.

Postnatal Massage & Reflexology:

Congratulations!! You've made it!
And it was worth the wait, but 9 months of extreme changes both hormonally and physically have put a lot of stress on both your posture and emotions. Now the focus seems to be on the baby, very rarely do people ask the new Mom "How are YOU doing?". The few weeks and even months after giving birth are crucial times in a woman's life. Some women experience postpartum depression, fatigue, muscle soreness, fear and feeling overwhelmed. Massage can help the new mother feel more relaxed and increase circulation to help detoxify the body naturally.

Postnatal reflexology can help in the following ways:
Reduces anxiety and tension.
Aids in balancing hormones and emotions.
Increases vitality and aids restful sleep.
Reflexology is very detoxifying.
Also helps with tender/sore breasts.
Home Visits & Gift Certificates Available.

Reviews

I believe I'm older than most other EarthySoul clients. In my 70's, I have a number of aches and pains that I hoped Eileen could help me with. I was not disappointed. She is knowledgeable and skilled and, just as importantly, personable and caring. I highly recommend Eileen.

I can't say enough good things about Eileen. I started seeing her almost 5 years ago for prenatal massage, and since then I have seen her for postnatal and Swedish massage, as well as reflexology. She is calm, considerate, and very attentive to the client's needs. Highly recommend!
